Medical Device Settlements and Medical Implants

Some hip and knee joint implants have been found to contain mistakes which effect the lifespan of the joint lifespan and require surgery to be done again sooner than expected. The need for early replacement of this type of implant is all too common. Many different providers have had issues with their products, medical implants and . Problems with these or other devices can be summarized as by saying that some material, infectious process or design defect causes the implant to fail and require replacement earlier than would otherwise be necessary. Medical device settlements have been initiated on some of these products.

These products can fail for all sorts of different reasons, but the following are what have been seen thus far:

  • Low end materials that can fracture causing the implant to not work properly;
  • Residue left on the implant that makes it not bond correctly or be host to an infection;
  • Improper surfacing finishing of the product that does not allow it to bond properly.
